I’m a Poet | Editor | Translator interested in how language shapes our lives.
About Me
I am a poet and translator of mixed Eastern European heritage, and the author of Rooted and Reduced to Dust (Finishing Line Press, 2024), hailed by Pulitzer Prize finalist Bruce Smith as "lacerating, fearless."
Poems and translations appear in such journals as Ninth Letter, Poetry Northwest, and Electric Literature. My work has been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and the Best of the Net Anthology, and has garnered support from such organizations as the Colgate Writers’ Conference, Hudson Valley Writers Center, and Atlantic Center for the Arts, among others.
I spent twenty years at the intersection of human services, technology, and public policy as the budget analyst for the NYC Department of Social Services; the research analyst at a large homeless services organization; and the implementation manager in healthcare technology. In 2021 I left the latter to focus on creative writing full time. In 2024 I founded LIT Technology Consulting, where we specialize in guiding mission-driven organizations through technology transformations.
I hold a Masters in Public Policy from CUNY Baruch College, and a double Bachelors in Economics and Psychology from Fordham University.
Passing poetry writing to others has been the greatest gift of my writing career. I've taught workshops to new and emerging writers, from justice-involved high schoolers in Albuquerque to community centers in the rural Midwest. I’ve read at venues including the New York Public Library and San Francisco's iconic Medicine for Nightmares.
Having spent most of my life in New York City, with stretches in the Caribbean and in Detroit, I now reside in the mountains of Morelos, Mexico with my partner, an award-winning novelist and human rights attorney. Our neighbors’ roosters, ducks, and donkeys set the soundtrack of our lives. My current creative passions include cultivating a practice of translating contemporary Latin American poetry, and adapting boleros for the ukulele.
As a Jewish person of conscience, I advocate for a free Palestine and boycott Zionist-apologist organizations in the arts world and beyond.
